Dunn, Meghan. "Transforming Lion Killers into 'Lion Guardians'" CNN. Cable News Network, 09 Dec. 2014. Web. 09 Dec. 2014.

Leela Hazzah is a women with a passion, and a commitment to save the lions in Africa. The population of lions in Africa today in down to 30,000 from where it was a century ago at 3 million. This is due to tribal members hunting lions, not for food, but for revenge against eating their livestock. Hazzah is committed to convincing these killers into becoming guardians to these lions. She has come up with a foundation into supplying these guardians with lion trackers in order to keep up with the lion movements. She says that when she first arrived she saw no lions, now she sees them everywhere.
People all around the world can look at this story and feel invited to go out and change the world. Though this victory is small in the eyes of say cancer or world hunger, if everyone looked at helping the world out the same way Leela Hazzah did the world would be a better place.

It sounds like educating the hunters about the importance of preserving some of the lions is part of what she worked on. The trackers probably help them feel like they can protect their own animals.

Cool story to share - thanks!

This story inspired me to help the world in some way. I think that big cats are beautiful, majestic creatures, and that they are a worthy cause to help. Do you think that lions are close to being extinct, or that we can manage to save them? (I'm going with number 2)

This was a very interesting article. I really enjoyed hearing about Leela Hazzah and her project to protect lions. When most people think about animal killers, they think elephants, whales, or even tigers. But, they do not realize how many other animals are in danger. I think that is a very great thing Leela Hazzah is doing with her life. Could you tell me more about how the population changed in the lion habitat?

It's amazing that she was able to save the lions of Africa! Especially when the tribal people killing the lions were driven by revenge for their livestock. But how did supplying the people with tracking device bring back the lions though? Also, what did the people do with the lions after they were killed?

I liked the Lion Killers to Lion Savers article and informative video. That post was very informative and I learned a lot. I did not know that lions in Africa were endangered. Livestock is not as majestic and powerful as a lion. I wonder why people would kill a lion just because of a couple of chickens. I would like to know more about this

Wow that was a really cool story how Leela has devoted her life into saving lions. I never knew that there used to be 3 million lions and now there is only 30,000. It's really inspiring to know that she cared enough to help and save all the lions she could and the lion species in Africa! If Leela can make a difference then how much of a difference could others make if we all teamed up?

I'm glad people are making changes in Africa. Maybe one day the lion population will grow back to 3 million. If it does, that proves we can do more things and make the world a better place. I never knew it was the tribes! I thought it was hunters hunting for money, and hunters only. If we can do it with lions, we can do it with other endangered species. Also, could you include more facts? For instance, how many are killed each year for revenge or money? Or what amount the lions could reach in a year with this new strategy on preserving the lions?

I never knew that people didn't kill lions for their meat but for revenge. It's amazing how someone wanted to save lions so bad and tried really hard to save them. This is a very well writen story. Do you think this inspired other people to follow their dream/wish? Thank you so much for informing us about this story! I would love to know more about what this has done to the population of lions. I think that it is really interesting that the lion killers have become people who help lions. The article is great, and I think that lions are an important part of the ecosystem and should be protected. I really like how it titled the article because it gives you a good idea of the article. It is a really good article, but how did she see no lions at first and so many after the lion killers started to help? I also want to know how the lion killers started to help because didn't they want revenge against the lions. Anyway the article was very good, Leela Hazzah made a very good point.

I think that this is an amazing thing that Leela Hazzah is doing this. The video makes me want to join the Lion Guardians because I love cats and lions are big cats. However, it makes me wonder, how do they know where a lion is, or who needs to stop hunting lions? Some of the tribal members may be good and not wish to kill the lions, but instead protect them! I have heard a lot about lions and tigers being endangered and their number of population going down. It makes me so happy that you are doing things like this. One thing that opened my mind in this video was why Native Tribes would kill creatures that only ate their live stock to survive. It is just like humans killing animals for meat. But it made me happier that they came from lion killers to lion savers. This little organization really helps the ecosystem and the environment. I wonder what great things lions do for the ecosystem. I agree with Avery H. Lions should be treated as well as any other animal whether they live in the wild or in your house. They may do some stuff that make you want to get even with them, but they really can't help it beacuse they live in the wilderness and that is what animals do to survive. Treat them intelligently. They have a family to go back to. Just think that one day one if your parents don't come back from work. That is exactly how the lions feel, too

It also surprises me that it started out with one person and then after a while, there were thousands, maybe even millions helping lions. But I do have a few questions. I found this story very interesting because i did not know that lions were endangered at all or that people kill thousands of them. Also I really like that these people are trying to stop them from dying out. I would like to learn how they convince them from killing them.

There was some interesting facts in that video that I didn't know. There was some facts that I thought that wasn't even true like searching for lions with radar signals that you hold up in the air.

I never knew that lions were endangered! When I go to the zoo, I just thought they mostly lived in Africa but were plentiful there. Now I will look out carefully for new interesting facts so I can learn more about animals and their habits. I wonder how many other animals are endangered that I didn't know about. I think that it's crazy that one day you are hunting lions and the next you are protecting them.

This really seems to be a big problem! If all these lions become extinct, then the entire Eco - System could be ruind! The Gazelle might overpopulate and eat all the vegiation, or other things that would be equally bad. Even though 30,000 lions might seem like a lot or a normal number, they could be killed faster than they populate. I feel like this video made me want to be a Lion Guardian, protect lions, and stop extinction!

Lions are very cute in my opinion. Every time a lion is killed it is for no reason better than money.I think it would be better for someone to make money by saving lions than killing them. The more animals we have on this planet the better.Leela is an inspiration to me.

I think it was amazing how warriors that killed lions to get revenge on them because lions killed their cattle can change so quickly! The warriors had to learn read and write to identify lions. They would risk their lives to save a single lion. The fact that someone was helping lions and teaching people that no benifits came out of hunting lions for sport filled me with joy. After I watched this video I wondered how many lion guardians there are now.

Great article! I never knew that Lions were endangered. Who would think the 2nd biggest cat in the world would almost be extinct. I guess that it's up to humans to save the Lions. I've actually done a report on Lions in class. Did you know that mostly female Lions hunt their prey. I thought that males would hunt.

I learned from this because I had no idea a century ago we had 3 million lions. I think it was very nice and couragous of this woman to try and make people that kill lions help them. I learned that one person had killed 8 lions before he became a lion saver. I know that most people think lions are dangerous but we still need to save them because they are a huge part of the food chain. If we didn't have lions we could have to many antalopes. So I think this is the right thing to do for our own world.

I think that leela is doing the right thing by saving the lions. I don't think that the lion hunters have thought about the lions and their familys. Also if the lion hunters kept killing the lions and the lions went extinct it would set the food chain. For example the lions wouldn't be able to eat the antelope. Then antelope would over populate.

I can't believe people are killing lions like that! Lions deserve to have a life just as much as we do! I am certainly an animal lover, but if I was a hater of animals I know I wouldn't kill them. Lions mainly live in Africa, because that is where they came from, so to think that the population of them in AFRICA is so low! What would you be? Will you be a lion killer or a lion guardian?

Lions are very amazing animals, in my opinion. The people that kill them should be sent to jail or punished. Any animal should have a chance to survive without being killed by a human because of revenge. Most people think that if someone kills someone on there side they they should kill someone on the other side.

I think that this article and video is very interesting because I too want to help save the lions. Even though, today, there are many lions that does not mean that we can start hunting the lions. Lions will be endangered if we do not take care of them. Some people kill lions just for revenge. People should not do that because then lions would be extinct sooner or later. There was only thirty thousand lions in Africa back then. But now there is so much more lions. Can you believe that lion hunters can become lion savers. So now just because there is a big population now, that does not mean that there will be a lot of lions in the future.

Before I read the article and watched the video, I had no idea that Africans were killing lions. I didn't realize that just one hundred years ago, lion populations were at 3,000,000, and now their populations are at 30,000. The lions are only trying to find food to be able to survive on their own, and if the African don't let the lions eat, they could very easily go extinct.

I think it is great that Leela Hazzah is doing the for lions. If lions go extinct, the food chain will be thrown off balance because lions are at the top off the food chai. Also it does not make sense why tribal members are kiling lions just becuse they are eating thier livestock. They are animals and they need food to eat and one of the places they find food is in thier ivestock. If you were a lion, wouldn`t you do the samething?
